Our dear friends from San Francisco, Linsey and Joe, stopped over in London for a visit last week. It had been almost a year to the date since we last said our goodbye’s at our favorite meeting spot, Patxis, with their two adorable babies. This time, it was just the four of us and we had a blast touring around and eating out at both local favorites and checking out new spots.
A walk in Hyde Park always helps to battle jet lag and a meandering around Kensington Palace never gets old for the hubs and me. These two perked right up at the sight of this beauty of a palace.
After cooking in and relaxing that night, we woke up to a beautiful sunny day. Taking advantage of the Indian Summer, we packed a blanket and headed to the Chelsea Physic Gardens for a
lesson in botany bottle of wine. Our very British Sunday Funday continued with a walk around Chelsea….
…followed by a Sunday Roast at The Duke of Clarence. After work on Monday, we met for pints and wines at The Lamb and Flag and topped off the night with amazing tapas at Condesa in Covent Garden. Later at home, I took advantage of having a girlfriend in town and attempted some closet purging. We were only successful in finding one shirt, but it was good girl time nonetheless!Having Tuesday off, I hopped on the tourist train- the London sights have lost nothing on me even as a local. The hubs met us for lunch at Borough Market where I enjoyed a Burg’ito, which included gourmet sliders, Comté cheese and other delicious toppings (think a burrito version of burger). To satisfy our sugar cravings, there were cookies, fudge and turkish treats galore. We walked off lunch over Tower Bridge, past the Tower of London and around Big Ben, marveling at the city sites the whole way. Home just in time for tea, Lins and I chatted in the garden behind Maison Blanc, one of my favorite pâtisseries. Before we knew it, we were having our last dinner at Il Trillo. The best was definitely saved for last- this restaurant, sister to the original in Tuscany, was SO GOOD. Between the special cocktail with coconut vodka, amazing bottles of wine and squid ink pasta, it easily shot to the top of my favorite restaurants list. We hated saying goodbye to these two, but absolutely loved having them visit. Being the incredibly thoughtful friend that she is, Lins left me with this beautiful gift, I cannot wait to hang it in our flat!
